AICC Prez poll on Monday: Kharge, Tharoor in fray

Bengaluru: Countdown has begun for the election of new president for All India Congress Committee (AICC), on Monday.

The election assumes significance in the interest of Karnataka as veteran leader and former minister M Mallikarjun Kharge is in the fray. Former union Minister and Tiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor is the another candidate in the fray.

Kharge is the sitting Rajya Sabha member, who was also the Opposition leader in the upper house of the parliament, till he submitted his resignation to the post recently.

Kharge and Opposition leader Siddaramaiah will be voting at the KPCC office on Queen’s road in the city, where polling booths have been set up. 

In all there are 9100 voters across the country including 494 in Karnataka. It includes 479 Pradesh Congress Committee representatives and 15 legislature party members. The election will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM.

The results will be announced on October 19, after the counting of votes.
