Mysuru: A girl student from a daily wager family from far away Bidar has hit headlines for bagging six gold medals and pocketing three cash prizes in MA Philosophy at the 101st convocation of University of Mysore on Tuesday.

Meenakshi daughter of Bhimashanakar and Shobavathi of Shahapur in Bidar has not just made her parents proud, but also self, for the odds she had to endure to reach this golden moment of her life.

Meenakshi wants to become IAS Officer, the dream she has been nursing, ever since she was in eighth standard at a Kannada medium school in Shahapur.

Now, she is preparing for IAS and one of the reasons to take Philosophy in her Master’s.

She did her schooling in Bidar, later PU at Udupi, graduation in Mangaluru and post graduation in University of Mysore.

Meenakshi told Mysoorunews.com “it’s a surprise that I have bagged all the medals of the department. My parents are daily wage labourers at Bidar, who took care of the family with five children. I am proud because our parents encouraged all the children to pursue higher education. My brother is now working as a child development coordinator. My two other sisters are doing MBA and LLB and another sister is into teaching. I thank my parents for providing higher education,” said Meenakshi owing all the success to her parents.

Meenakshi was largely inspired by philosopher Socrates. His thought processing and daring nature and his struggles against barriers really inspired me, added Meenakshi who is preparing for civil services exams from the last one-and-a-half years.

” My goal is to become IAS officer,” said Meenakshi in an affirmative tone.
