Mysuru: A visually challenged girl student from rural side has recorded many firsts in academics, in her village.

Latha H N from Handithavalli in Periyapatna taluk in the district is the first student of the village to secure a gold medal and also the first to hold a post-graduation. She excelled in MA Kannada in flying colours.

Latha received the medal at 101st Convocation of University of Mysore, to the applause of the gathering on Tuesday.

Latha told Mysoorunews.com “it’s around 20 plus scribes who helped me from SSLC  exams to post graduation. I thank all those scribes who all supported me in my endeavour. Usually in Art stream, we need to write lengthy answers requiring supplementary sheets. But my scribes didn’t disappoint and wrote all the answers.”

My parents are agriculturists at Handithavalli in Ravandur at Periyapatna taluk. My parents and sister Jayashree helped a lot to become a gold medallist, Latha said with a tinge of pride.

Latha who is visually challenged by birth, did her schooling at Rangarao Memorial Visually challenged Residential school, later high school at CSI Victoria School in Nazarbad and PU at Maharani’s College and Master’s at Kuvempu institute of Kannada Studies, Manasagangotri.
