Actress, BJP leader Jayaprada sentenced to six- month jail

Chennai: Multilingual actress and former MP Jayaprada has been sentenced to six-month imprisonment and imposed Rs 5,000 fine by Egmore Court in Chennai.
Following a petition filed by the employees of a movie theatre owned by Jayaprada in Rayapeta, Chennai, the Court sentenced the actress along with two others Ram Kumar and Raja Babu of Chennai, who run the theatre.
The problem began with the management failing to pay the ESI of theatre employees prompting them to move the court.
Though the actress promised to pay the entire amount to the staff, in her appeal to the court to dismiss the case, Labour Government Insurance Corporation advocate objected to her appeal.
The 61-year-old Jayaprada is currently in BJP.
