With new Covid clusters emerging, measures in place to tackle virus: Dr Sudhakar

Bengaluru: Alarmed over the new Covid clusters emerging in the State, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar said “Government will reserve 20 per cent beds in district and taluk hospitals.”

This follows the sudden spike in Covid cases in Dharwad, where 160 students of SDM Medical College and Hospital have tested Covid positive and the results of 1822 students are awaited still.

Sudhakar who spoke to media persons in Bengaluru said “The Technical Advisory Committee (consisting of experts) have warned that the children are at more risk during the possible third wave of COVID. In the wake of this, the government has readied 25,870 oxygen supported beds and 502 paediatric ventilators both at the government and private medical hospitals.”

Sudhakar also said “about 285 paediatricians, 1,250 medical officers, 1,202 nurses, along with 85 paediatricians were recruited on July 6-7. They have been given a special training regarding providing treatment during the third wave of Covid-19. All the required equipment and infrastructure have been kept ready. While few more equipment are yet to come. Probably in 15 days to three weeks time they will be made available at the hospitals,” said Sudhakar.
