Techie from Maddur village dies in Pune; villagers feared as family plans funeral here

Mandya: Tension has gripped Tailur village in Maddur taluk as the news of a mortal remains of a woman from Pune in Maharashtra, being brought to the village for cremation has reached them.
Their fear stems from the fact their neighbouring village Kodagalli reported four Covid-19 cases after the mortal remains of a man, who had died in Mumbai recently was cremated in Kodagalli.
On Saturday, news of the woman’s body being brought to Tailur from Pune caused fear among the villagers.
However, according to the latest report the vehicle carrying the body has been stopped at Karnataka- Maharashtra border at Belagavi.
Soumya (35), daughter of retired police officer Appajaiah of Tailur village had died of heart attack in Pune near Mumbai on Friday. Soumya was working as a software engineer.
Villagers are now opposing the body to be cremated in their village.
Meanwhile, the district administration is grappled with second such case. It had received a severe flak for allowing the funeral at Kodagalli.
As the news spread that an ambulance carrying Soumya’s body is arriving at the village, the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure safety of the people. It is taking all precautionary measures like keeping a strict vigil at all the check posts. Besides, it has decided to allow the body only after reviewing the necessary documents.
