45-year-old tusker electrocuted in coffee estate

Chikmagaluru: A 45-year-old tusker was found electrocuted in a coffee estate at Kolagave in Chikmagaluru district on Tuesday.
Deputy Conservator of Forest, Ramesh Babu, said that the elephant had brought down an arecanut tree, which subsequently caused snapping of an overhead live electric wire. The tusker accidentally came in contact with the wire, resulting in its death.
The cases of elephant electrocution have been on the rise in Karnataka, highlighting an urgent issue for wildlife conservation in the region.
