Chikkamagaluru: Close on the heels of a civil contractor from Belagavi allegedly committing suicide at a lodge in Udupi, another Belagavi native contractor has allegedly committed suicide at a lodge in Balehonnur in the district.

Basavaraj Ningappa Maradabudukin (46) is the deceased. He was a native of Munavalli in Saundatti taluk, Belagavi.

Basavaraj was found hanging at a lodge. He was working as a sub-contractor for Giri Constructions Private Limited, Bengaluru owned by one Jayaram, for the past five years.

According to a death note purportedly written by Basavaraj, he has blamed Jayaram for his death.

It is alleged that Basavaraj was in a deep financial mess as Jayaram owed Rs 1.2 crore to him.

On the assurance of Jayaram, Basavaraj had taken up Jal Jeevan Mission Works in Balehonnur, estimated Rs 7.5 crore.

As Jayaram owed Rs 1.2 crore with no hints of repayment, Basavaraj who allegedly couldn’t bear the torture of money lenders took the drastic step, Basavaraj’s relative Iranna Karadikoppa has alleged in his police complaint.

The body of Basavaraj was taken to Belagavi after autopsy.
