Mysuru: Days after a Yuva Brigade activist was allegedly hacked to death during Hanuma Jayanti in T Narasipur, local MLA and Social Welfare Minister District In-charge Dr H C Mahadevappa visited the deceased’s family in T Narasipur on Friday.
Activist Venugopal Nayak was allegedly murdered during Hanuma Jayanti in the town on Sunday.
Minister Mahadevappa spoke to Nayak’s wife Poornima and other family members and assured that the culprits will not be spared. Lauding the police’s efforts in nabbing the accused within the first six hours of the crime, the minister told the family that the government was with them.
He also interacted with them on how the things unfolded that day which led to Nayak’s alleged murder. He handed over a cheque for Rs 4.12 lakh as first installment of Rs 8 lakh compensation from the Social Welfare Department. Remaining amount of compensation would be given after the chargesheet is filed, he informed.
To instill confidence, Mahadevappa also assured to provide a job on humanitarian grounds to Nayak’s wife.
Later, speaking to reporters, the minister – quoting the police – said that Nayak was murdered during a tussle over parking and putting up the portrait of Puneeth Rajkumar.
He criticised the BJP leaders for communalising the incident. “They have the habit of painting every death in Hindutva colour. But how long can they paint the lie as truth,” he remarked.
This does not appear to be the murder for religion, Mahadevappa added.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra and other officials were present.
