Youth orders phone online, kills delivery boy for no cash

2 min read

Hassan: Unable to pay for the I-Phone that he had ordered online, a 20-year-old youth killed a delivery boy and burnt his body near a railway track at Arasikere, recently. The police have now arrested Hemanth Datta for murdering Hemanth Naik (23) and burning his body near the railway track.

Hemanth Datta had ordered an I-Phone online. But when Hemanth Naik came to deliver the phone which was apparently second hand – on February 7 – Datta did not have Rs 46,000 to pay for the phone. As Datta refused to pay for the phone, Naik promptly replied that he would be returning the phone, which allegedly enraged Datta. He stabbed Naik with a knife, who died on the spot. Datta allegedly hid the body for four days and decided to get rid of it. He took the body in a gunny bag and burnt it on Anchekoppal railway track.

The police had recovered a half-burnt body on the track and were looking for clues for the murder. A missing complaint by Naik’s brother Manju Naik led the police to Datta. Manju Naik had stated in the complaint that his brother Hemanth Naik had gone to Datta to deliver an I-Phone. This helped the police crack the mystery.

Hemanth Datta allegedly told the police that since he did not have money to buy the phone that he had ordered, he decided to kill Naik and take the phone.

Hassan SP Hariram Shankar has taken the accused into custody.
