Youth attacks MLA Tanveer Sait with knife

Mysuru: Former minister and sitting Congress MLA of N R Assembly constituency Tanveer Sait suffered severe injuries after he was attacked by a youth with knife on November 17.

The accused Farhan Pasha, 23 is from Ghousia Nagar in the city. He is a craftsman by profession and works in a handicrafts shop. The incident occurred at about 11.30 pm.

He was handed over by the people present at the scene of crime to N R Police. The reason behind the attack is not known yet, Police Commissioner K T Balakrishna has told media persons.

Sait who sustained a deep cut about five to six inches on the right side of his neck was operated for about three hours in Columbia Asia Hospital. He is put on ventilator support at intensive care unit.

According to the eyewitness account, Sait was taking part in a dinner hosted after his relative’s marriage at Balbhavan in Bannimantap, when Pasha attacked him.

A musical nite was going on with Sait seated in the front row also witnessing it, when Pasha pretending to walk away pulled out a knife from his pocket and slashed the neck part of Sait, before taking to heels.

The people sitting nearby raised an alarm and Pasha was caught in no time. The profusely bleeding Sait was rushed to hospital.

Fairoz Pasha the gunman of Sait though present at the spot, was taken off guard at that time.

N R police have registered an attempt to murder case against Pasha.
