Mysuru: While the flood is back to trouble people, the grievances over flood that ravaged parts of the district in the previous year still remains to be addressed by the authorities.

The flood survivors of the previous year staged a protest under the banner of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) near Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday.
They demanded adequate shelter to save themselves from the fury of natural calamity.
The flood survivors Chaluvi, Padma Ranganath, Siddalingaiah and Udayakumari explained that “flood caused by overflowing Kabini river destroyed nearly 43 houses at Bidarahalli circle. State government assured to shift us to safe places with adequate facilities, but the assurance still remains on papers”.
The then district incharge minister V Somanna visited the place and also promised to sanction Housing units and Rs 50,000 compensation to the survivors. However, the wait for benefits still continue, they claimed.
SUCI activist Chandrashekar Meti told that “43 families are still in pathetic condition. They are living in temporary shelters and the government should be held accountable for making false promises and snatching their due right for a dignified livelihood”.
On one hand Covid crisis has made their lives miser, while on the other hand flood has aggravated the situation. The government and the district administration should take a call immediately on providing them safe and permanent shelters, demanded Meti.
