New Delhi: Scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysore Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar visited 18 Madras (Mysore) battalion in the city.

Yaduveer and his wife Trishika Kumari Wadiyar who are on Delhi tour, attending their prior engagements, made time to visit the 18 Madras (Mysore) battalion headquarters.

Yaduveer shared the memories of Mysore infantry which also participated in the first world war. After India became Republic in 1950, Mysore Infantry was disbanded and absorbed into Indian army. The 18th battalion of the Madras Regiment of Indian Army was formed from the Mysore State infantry.

Mysore Infantry originated from Mysore Lancers and His Highness Mysore Maharaja’s Bodyguards (HHMMB). Even now we can see the Mounted Police under Karnataka Armed Reserve Police (KARP) marching during Jamboo Savari procession, the grand finale of Dasara.

Yaduveer shared on social media “It was an honour to visit the 18 Madras (Mysore) Battalion in Delhi, alongside my wife, Smt. Trishikha Kumari Wadiyar.”

Yaduveer and Trishika also went through the photo gallery exhibited at the office of Madras Battalion and also signed the visitors book.

The 18 Madras (Mysore) was the 1st infantry Battalion of Kingdom of Mysore that is no more in existence. Post merger of the Princely States,  the battalion was integrated into the Indian Army as the 18th Madras Battalion”.
