2 min read

Mysuru: All India Institute of Speech And Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru has organised a Facebook live Phone-in Programme on April 1 from 2 PM to 3 PM.

The topic is ‘Autism and Sensory Integration – World Autism Awareness Day’.

Autism is a lifelong, non-progressive neurological condition typically appearing before the age of three years significantly affecting verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction. It is estimated that about 1 in 89 children in India are autistic. Despite high prevalence, awareness and acceptance regarding Autism in society is dismal. As a result of which many children and individuals with Autism are unable to receive timely support services like speech therapy, sensory integration therapy, special education, dietary modifications, etc. from various professionals.

Every year April 2 is celebrated as World Autism Awareness Day. As a part of World Autism Awareness Day 2022 – “Leave No One Behind”, this live phone-in program will focus on creating awareness and acceptance about Autism, support services for individuals with Autism through various therapies especially sensory integration therapy, and inclusion in education and workplace.

The program also includes an interview with a mother of an adult with autism, who will share her journey of 25 years with various professionals in seeking support services.
