1 min read

Mysuru: Former chairman of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of commerce and Industries ( FKCCI) Sudhakar S Shetty bemoaned that “Womem entrepreneurs lack awareness on various schemes of the government. The officials and government have also failed in providing adequate publicity in this regard”.

Shetty was speaking during a programme on GEM Portal and Public Procurement Policy organised by Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( MCCI) and MSME.

Shetty said “Of the total population in the country, 50 percent are women. However not many women are being encouraged to become an entrepreneur. The bankers and officials should change their mindsets towards women folk as their empowerment has remained only on papers”.

Many are still not aware that there is a three percent reservation for women entrepreneurs in the tenders awarded by State Government and MSME. However the participation of women is zero. For SC/ STs there is four per cent reservation, but only 0.2 PC of women take part in tender process.

Shetty felt that the district incharge minister should convene a meeting with the chamber of commerce at least once in three months to hear their grievances. Earlier when S A Ramdas and A H Vishwanath were the district incharge ministers, they had set a precedent in this direction.

MCCI President A S Satish and Suman S Raju Assistant Director of MSME Development Institute also spoke.
