Mysuru: With the post of Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore remaining vacant, nearly 3,000 employees of the varsity are awaiting their salaries and pensions to be cleared. The university needs to clear Rs 6 cr that constitutes both salary and pension amount and only the vice chancellor could approve of such a big amount.

On Monday, a few retired employees staged a protest near the Crawford Hall urging the government to appoint the VC at the earliest.

Currently there are 900 guest lecturers and around 1,600 non-teaching staff are working in the university and they are all facing trouble due to the high court order. Besides, around 1,015 retired employees’ pension is also delayed. For, any transaction above Rs one lakh needs the permission of vice chancellor as both university Registrar and finance officers are reportedly not authorized to do it. And, now the university needs to approve of Rs 6 cr that constitute both salary and pension amount.

It may be recalled here that the High Court of Karnataka stayed the appointment of Dr NK Loknath as the VC, recently. As a result, salaries and pensions of several employees have been withheld for want of an authorized person to clear it.

The protesters led by K Mahadev and Kalachannegowda urged the government to look into their pleas. They also submitted their grievances to Registrar Shylaja.

According to University sources, the University will write a detailed letter to the State government for immediate action keeping in mind the welfare of employees including the retired persons.
