Chamarajanagar: Concerns are rising over the death od elephants in Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple Tiger (BRT) Reserve.
In a worrying development, the skeletons of two tuskers were recently discovered in the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve. Now, the carcass of another elephant has been found in the crucial tiger reserve forest. A tusker estimated to be aged between 45 and 50 years, was discovered in the Bylur range area, sparking the questions on the patrolling system.
Wildlife activists have raised serious concerns about the deaths, questioning whether they are the result of an infectious disease outbreak within the reserve or possibly the poisoning of the elephants.
After knowing the incident, BRT staff, including a veterinary team, rushed to the spot. They have reported that the recent death appears to be from natural causes and confirmed that the tusks of the deceased elephant have been preserved. The case is under investigation.
