Weighing 5000 kg howdah carrier Abhimanyu proves his might

Mysuru: Arjuna the former howdah carrying Dasara elephant still remains the strongest among the 14 elephants brought into the City of Palaces for annual Nada Habba.

When all the 14 elephants were weighed on Friday, second time for nine elephants that came in the first batch and first for the five elephants that came in the second batch recently, Arjuna was found weighing 5885 gaining 175 kg more than he was weighing earlier when he came to Mysuru in August, followed by howdah carrier Abhimanyu- 5000 kg, Chaitra-3235, Bheema- 4345 kg, Gopalaswamy- 5460 kg, Mahendra- 4450 kg, Vijaya- 2760 kg, Gopi- 4670 kg, Dhananjaya-4890 kg, Srirama-4475 kg, Lakshmi-3150 kg, Sugreeva- 4785 kg, Cauvery-3245 kg and Parthasarathy-3445 kg.

DCF V Karikalan who supervised the weight checking process of the elephants at the weigh bridge on Dhanwantri road in the city said “The weight of all the 14 elephants were checked and those including the first batch of elephants have gained weight. All the male elephants are between 4000 kg and 4600 kg. Parthasarathy the most youngest among the elephants also weighs 3445 kg. There is an increase in weight of all the first batch elephants which are even responding to the practice”.

For the first time all the 14 elephants were brought out of the Palace today for checking their weight. Elephants Srirama and Parthasarathy have joined the first batch of elephants for practice from Thursday itself. All the elephants will be taken out for practice from September 12, said Karikalan.
