Weekend Curfew! We are not participating… message hits high on social media

1 min read

Mysuru: Following the fresh Covid restrictions, hoteliers and travel operators cried foul and opposed the decision to reimpose Weekend Curfew in eight districts  including Mysuru.

They started sharing messages on social networking sites saying- Seize the border not the city. We are not participating in weekend lockdown.

On Friday Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai suddenly announced night curfew and weekend lockdown in eight districts which shared border with Kerala and Maharashtra, much to the shock of business class.

Hotel Owners Association Mysuru condemned the state government’s fresh order as it will dent the already crippling hospitality industry which has already reached its nadir.

Hotel Owners Association President C Narayan Gowda said “around 25,000 employees and 1,500 owners are involved in this (hotel, bakery, restaurants) business. The government order will directly impact those people and their dependents. Lakhs of unorganised workers willbe rendered jobless”

Lockdown is not a solution as it creates food scarcity in urban areas and leads to unemployment crisis with those hailing from rural areas forced to return home. They will be facing financial crunch again. Government should find out alternative methods to curb Covid-19 pandemic than going for Curfew and lockdown, Narayangowda stated.

The repeated lockdown is leading towards serious problems. Mysuru has about 12 lakh population. With back to back lockdown, the people will be forced to end their lives, leave aside Covid-19, Gowda stated.
