Water released from KRS dam to canals

Mandya: As per the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) and  decision taken in the Krishnarajasagar (KRS) Reservoir Irrigation Advisory Committee meeting held on January 7 under the chairmanship of Chairman, Krishnarajasagar Reservoir Irrigation Advisory Committee, Mandya District In-charge Minister and Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy, the sugarcane crops currently growing in the Achukattu area of ​​the Visvesvaraya canal network of Krishnarajasagar Reservoir will be watered in the canals from January 10 to 28 on the basis of the kattu (release and stop) system (18 days of water flowing in the canal and the next 12 days of water being stopped in the canal).

It has been decided to release water and farmers in the Achukattu area have been requested to use water sparingly. The Irrigation Department will not be responsible if any new crops are grown and damaged due to lack of water. Water will be released only in the main canal and branch canals of the Visvesvaraya canal network for 18 days, and water will be released in the distribution canals and sub-canals for a specified period, as per the requirement.

Visvesvaraya Canal – Main Canal and 24th mile distributary canal (excluding the connecting canal), Left Bank and Right Bank Lower Level Canals, Cauvery Branch Canal, Old Maddur Branch Canal, Shimsha Canal (only as per requirement for specified area and specified period), Keragodu Branch Canal (up to 21st distributary canal), New Maddur Branch Canal (up to 31st distributary canal), Loksar Branch Canal, Turaganur Branch Canal (up to 5th distributary canal), Hebbakavadi Branch Canal (14th distributary canal). Water will be released to these above canals in 4 stages.

The first phase will be from January 10 to 28, the second phase from February 9 to 27, third phase from March 11 to 29 and the fourth phase from April 10 to 28, for a total of 18 days in one installment, said the Member Secretary of the Krishnarajasagar Reservoir Irrigation Advisory Committee, Superintendent Engineer, in a statement.
