Mysuru: Following the pandemic state government kept Jamboo Savari simple, sans any pomp and gaiety like previous years.
The Jamboo Savaari on Mysuru palace premises on October 26 was restricted for a stretch of 290 metres and for a minimum of 300 audience including both VVIP and officials. Not to disappoint the people from local to global, arrangements had been made to screen the most awaited day of the year live on Doordarshan and social media. These arrangements were made to avoid large crowd gatherings leading to the spread of the virus.
Although, Simple Dasara idea disappointed a few people as Dasara was a family festival, a getaway and time for fun a few felt that it was the best way to “stay home and away from the risk”.

‘Considering the risk of public and their health this was the best possible way to celebrate this year’s Dasara. To sit with family at the comfort of our home and watch the live coverage of the Jamboo Savari was pleasing and safe,’ said Preksha, a college student.

‘Almost every year, my family and I went to the streets to watch Jamboo Savaari and it was extremely fun. We reached there hours before the procession and waited with the best possible seats. However, this year has put a stop to it. I am disappointed about the festivities that I couldn’t enjoy this Dasara but in view of the safety, I was happy to watch the procession on TV,’ shared Jayashree, a housewife.
The traffic was a little less, the rush was a little slow and fun was limited. Gawking at illuminations with mask and hand sanitiser along with temperature check ups everywhere, this year’s Dasara came to an end and it is surely a one to remember for years to come.
