Vishwanath’s nomination to Legislative Council is violation of SC verdict: Sa Ra Mahesh

2 min read

Mysuru: Former minister and K R Nagar MLA Sa Ra Mahesh on Friday claimed that the nomination of BJP leader A H Vishwanath to the Legislative Council is in violation of the Supreme Court verdict in the case of disqualified MLAs.

Mahesh who took umbrage at his political bete noire Vishwanath said “Once an elected MLA is disqualified he or she must contest the elections to derive constitutional benefits. Vishwanath who contested the recent by- election from Hunsur was defeated in the election. But, he has been nominated to the upper house of the state legislature. However he is nominated from the category of writers”.

Mahesh alleged that even the Governor has violated the Supreme Court verdict. If Vishwanath is allowed to take oath, it will amount to contempt of court.

Mahesh who said that he will continue to fight, announced that he will write to Governor and the Chairman of Legislative Council over the issue.

Vishwanath disrespected the verdict of Hunsur voters and prominent workers of JD(S) party by herding MLAs to Mumbai then. As an advocate he must rethink or examine the supreme court judgement”, said Mahesh.

In a mocking tone, Mahesh said “with Vishwanath opting for literary field to further his political career, it is hoped that the political arena will be cleansed. At the same time, we pray that the literary field remains unblemished as it is enriched with doyen like S L Bhyrappa and other prominent litterateurs”.

Mahesh also chided that Vishwanath has at last become a MLC by ‘begging hard” for the benefit.
