Mysuru: Following heavy rain that lashed the city on Friday night, a snake that is suspected to have been washed away in rain water was rescued near Railway underpass in Saraswatipuram on Saturday.

A Russell’s Viper snake, one of the poisonous snakes in the world, was spotted on the road side.

An alert passerby informed snake rescuer Snake Shyam, who rescued the reptile much to the relief of anxious passersby.

Shyam who also creates awareness as and when he rescues the snake said “As it’s rainy season, snakes are slithering out of holes and finding alternative places among the piles of waste at houses. Hence, people must be alert”.

Recalling the recent death of fellow snake rescuer Lokesh alias Loki at Nelamangala who died of bite, Shyam brought to the notice the emergent need of herpetologists who deserve compensation from the government in such cases.

Besides, there is also a need to open separate wing to treat snake bite cases at hospitals.
