Mysuru: Na Ratna, a renowned theatre personality of Mysuru, passed away due to heart attack in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning.
He was 89, and was also a close associate of noted Sarod exponent Pandit Rajiv Taranath, who passed away recently.
Natesh Ratna (Na Ratna) had made significant contributions to amateur theatre in Mysuru since the 1970s, playing a pivotal role in its development. In 1966, he co-founded the theatre group “Samathentho” in Saraswathipuram, pioneering the introduction of Absurdist plays in Mysuru, which continued to influence local theatre profoundly.
Apart from his theatrical endeavors, Ratna was also a founding member of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) institute.
With support from Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, this institution in Mysuru grew to become nationally recognized for its contributions to hearing and therapeutic medicine. Rathna’s multifaceted contributions have left a lasting impact on both the cultural and medical landscapes of Mysuru.
Ratna is survived by his son Ajit and daughter Kavita.
