Mysuru: Members of veerashaiva community in large numbers have staged a protest against journalist Vishweshwar Bhat on October 25.

A silent rally was taken out from Basaveshwara statue near Shivaratri Rajendra Circle to deputy commissioner’s office.

Members of Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Mysuru district and Basava Balagagala Okkoota, devottes of Suttur mutt took part in the rally demanding justice from Bhat.

Addressing the protesters former MLC Thontadaya said “Suttur mutt has a history of thousands of years and its guru parampara is a model in India. The mutt is engaged in the field of education and is rendering service to the society”.

We as the devotees of the mutt condemn the column written by Vishweshwar Bhat in ‘Vishwavani’ Kannada daily on Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji.

The column portrays Swamiji in a bad light by establishing a link between the nomination of Kannada Book Authority chairman Dr M N Nandeesh Hanche and Swamiji, meaning Swamiji had influenced for elevation of Hanche.

The devotees of the mutt across  the State will be holding a protest and government should take action against Bhat.

Former MLC Prof K R Mallikarjunappa, Kanya Shivamurthy president of Veerashaiva Mahasabha district unit, Marballi M H Chandrashekar president of city unit, Varuna Mahesh treasurer of State executive committee of Veerashaiva Mahasabha and other leaders participated in the rally.

A memorandum was submitted to Additional Deputy Commissioner B R Poornima at Deputy Commissioner’s office.
