V Prabhakar Memorial Legends T10 cricket tournament at SDNRW Stadium on March 19 & 20

Mysuru: Navodaya Cricket Club Mysuru in association with Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore has organised  “V Prabhakar memorial Legends T10 cricket tournament at SDNRW Stadium on March 19 and 20.

Addressing media persons at Press Club here on Tuesday M R Suresh, Office bearer, Navodaya Cricket club said “Around 75+ Senior Cricketers who have represented Ranji Trophy, Karnataka State, Mysuru division and University Cricket teams will be part of this 2- Day tournament. It will be 10 over a side tournament, power play for 3 overs and each bowler can’t bowl more than 2 overs. Its first of its kind tournament in Mysuru, 10-over’s-a-side, Power play for 3 overs. Five teams will be taking part in the tournament and it will be played on league basis. Each team will get 4 matches to play and the top two teams will qualify for the finals which will be played on March 20, 3 pm.

“The tournament will be inaugurated by Hemantha Kumar, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore on March 19 at 7.30 am while prize distribution function will be held on March 20 at 4.30 pm. Former Ranji cricketer S Vijaya Prakash, K R Mohan Kumar, President, Navodaya Cricket club and P Krishnaiah, Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore will be chief guests and distribute the prizes. Post Covid 19, there was a slowdown in cricketing activities. We want our fellow cricketers to keep themselves fit and contribute to the growth of cricket thereby Inspiring youngsters all over”.

He also mentioned that free accommodation is also arranged for those coming from outside. Apart from this there is no entry fee for the tournament, added Suresh.

P Krishnaiah, Director, Department of Physical Education, UOM who also spoke on the occasion said “The players have taken this tournament very seriously and we can see active participation from all the players. This is a kind of 40-year-old connect for cricketers who have played cricket from 1980 onwards till date. To take part in the tournament the players keep practicing regularly and also keep themselves fit. More Importantly This event helps them to keep their health in good shape in current situation”.

Tournament Back ground:

Tournament is being conducted in memory of V Prabhakar – Founder of Navodaya Cricket club, a well-known cricketer in Karnataka cricketing fraternity.

He represented Mysore state, Mofussil X1, Mysore University and Division teams. He represented Ideal JAWA cricket team through his profession since 1970 and had several records in his name in Cricket including the fastest century in 38 balls (1992).

Navodaya Cricket Club secretary P Srinivas Prabhakar said “V Prabhakar was also instrumental in developing many cricketing clubs in Mysuru. Apart from being Cricketer and Coach, he has served under various capacities as Selection Committee Member and Chairman, Manager for Mysuru Divisions and Local Manager for Karnataka Ranji Team-1989, Founder Secretary – Mysore District women’s cricket association (MDWCA).

“Prabhakar’s Cricket Clinic”, The training arm of Navodaya Cricket club today has trained numerous cricketers since 1989 and many of them have played for Ranji trophy, Karnataka State, Mysore University and Division cricket teams.
