Use KRS water only for drinking purpose: People in Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagar and Bengaluru urged

1 min read

Mysuru: The Cauvery Niravari Nigam has appealed to citizens of Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagar and Bengaluru to make judicious use of water from Krisha Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir only for drinking purpose as the water storage in the reservoir is only 32.10 per cent.

Lack of rain in Cauvery catchment area has caused a huge shortage of water in the reservoir, that’s the lifeline of people in the old Mysuru region. Although there are 204 lakes in and around Mandya and Mysuru, water level in these water sources is below 20 per cent. Hence, water from the reservoir could be released only for the next ten days from July 21 to canals, said the Nigam.

In the wake of this, Nigam engineer has appealed to people in Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagar and Bengaluru districts to use water only for drinking purposes.

As on July 22, water level at KRS is recorded at 49.243 TMC. While the inflow is recorded at 6,278 cusecs as against 21,367 cusecs, previous year, outflow is registered at 356 cusecs only.
