UoM research scholar alleges rape, files police complaint against professor

Mysuru: University of Mysore is in news for wrong reasons. A teaching faculty is accused of rape with the victim lodging a complaint at Jayalakshmipuram police station.

Prof Dr Ramachandrappa of Department of Studies in political science, Manasagangotri the PG campus of Mysuru varsity is the accused.

Interestingly, the incident came to light after the accused’s wife Prof Lolakshi a faculty at Kannada department returned home at the staff quarters near the campus.  The victim fell at her feet seeking justice.

Lolakshi herself took both her husband and the victim to Jayalakshmipuram police station.

In her written complaint to Jayalakshmipuram police Inspector, a copy of which is with Mysoorunews.com the victim who is a PhD research scholar at political science department has alleged that “Ramachandrappa called me home at around 3.45 pm on the pretect of helping me with my PhD. However, after talking about PhD for sometime, Ramachandrappa sought sexual favour. He took me to his room and raped me. Even when I shouted nobody came to my rescue. Later on my own will I wrote a letter to his wife seeking justice. Also I seek action against Ramachandrappa in the ambit of law.”

According to Lolakshi, the incident came to be known as she came home to collect study materials.

” My husband had dalliance with many girl students in the department. Some of the male students who were pursuing research under his guidance were also arranging  girls for my husband. I had doubts about his behaviour and it has turned true with this incident.”

Lolakshi said “Nobody should fall prey to such acts. Hence I myself volunteered to lodge a complaint. I have brought this to the notice of both VC and Registrar.”

Meanewhile, the police enquired Ramachandrappa at the station.
