Bengaluru: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H D Kumaraswamy, chaired an important meeting to explore skill-based employment opportunities for unemployed youth in Mandya Lok Sabha constituency and across the state.
Focusing on Mandya district, where nearly 80% of the population depends on agriculture, the Minister held detailed consultations with senior officials from various departments on providing skill training and creating job opportunities.
At his office in the HMT building in Bengaluru, the Union Minister emphasised the need to ensure employment for youth who have completed diplomas, ITIs, engineering degrees, and postgraduate programs.
“We should consider organising apprenticeship fairs to help eligible candidates secure jobs,” he suggested.
Kumaraswamy also deliberated with officials from the Skill Development Department and the MSME sector on providing training aligned with job market demands. He stressed the importance of equipping candidates with skills that meet the current industry requirements.
“Skill Training through HMT Centers”
The Minister engaged with officials from the HMT Skill Training Center to explore training options for ITI, diploma, and engineering graduates.
“It’s not enough to simply provide skill training; we must ensure that the training leads to employment opportunities,” he instructed the officials.
“Employment Opportunities for Youth in Mandya”
Highlighting the situation in Mandya, Kumaraswamy said, “Mandya has a population of over 5 million, of which more than 2 million are youth. With 80% of the population dependent on agriculture, there is a significant demand for agriculture-based jobs. Many children from agricultural families pursue engineering, diploma, and ITI courses but struggle to find jobs. They approach me daily seeking employment.”
He added, “Women in Mandya are largely employed in the garment industry. If we provide quality training in the textile sector, we can generate substantial employment opportunities. A successful model in Mandya could then be replicated across other parts of the state.”
Mobile Health Units in Mandya
The Minister discussed the introduction of mobile health units in each of the eight assembly constituencies within Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. In a consultation with officials from HLL Health Care, Kumaraswamy reviewed a detailed presentation on mobile health units, including their operation, delivery of healthcare services, and financial resource mobilization.
He further highlighted employment opportunities in the healthcare sector, including nursing, lab assistant roles, lab technicians, and medical equipment manufacturing. *”Mandya has significant potential for skill-based employment in both private and public healthcare sectors. Training youth in these areas will prepare them for these roles, which are critical for implementing government programs,”* he noted.
“Skill development initiatives by PM Modi’s Government”
Kumaraswamy emphasized, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has introduced several initiatives and allocated resources for skill-based job creation. These programs must be utilized effectively, and progress reports should be submitted promptly,” he directed the officials.
