2 min read
Mysuru: While most of the activities have resumed after unlock in different phases, the gymnasiums remain closed still, forcing the owners of such fitness centres to seek the guidelines of the government to reopen them.

President of Inter District Gym Owners Association Avinash told media persons on Friday, “the Association is active in six districts and around 70 gymnasiums are in the fold. Not less than 500 people are dependent on gymnasiums”.

Following the prolonged situation, owners of the gyms are rendered jobless since five months due to Covid crisis. Most of them are locked in financial problems, being unable to pay building rent, EMI towards loans. Though the RBI has directed the banks not to force for EMI, it just remains a mere statement as most of the financial firms are forcing to pay the dues, he said.

With no options left, the gym owners are waiting for the government guidelines, but the authorities continue to ignore the physical fitness sector. While most of the business establishments are permitted along with the safety measures. We are finding it difficult even to keep the hearth burning at home, Avinash claimed.

Gym operator Nithin told “We have been waiting for some relief from the first phase of unlock. But, there is neither a guideline nor any financial assistance. We are ready to comply with the norm of safe distance, sanitisation of individuals. We are also ready to limit the members turning up to tone up their body. All we want is the rules to reopen immediately”.

Vishwanath said “Even schools have started online classes. But, we have been suffering with zero income since five months and are unable to pay fee of our children. Our investments have gone kaput and the building owners are demanding rent, while we are unable to pay. In such cases, the owners are insisting to vacate the space”.

Where do we go and where can we keep our equipment? The government should come out with a solution. Or else we will be forced to take the extreme step, he warned.

Nithesh and other gym owners were present.
