Mysuru: To mitigate the increasing number of accidents on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has banned two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, tractors and others on the Expressway. The new gazette notification will come into effect from August 1.
On July 12, a gazette notification was issued banning two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, tractors and other vehicles as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
It may be recalled here that ever since the Expressway was thrown open to the public, there have been demands to ban these vehicles on the Expressway. The NHAI had submitted these demands to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The demand had gained momentum recently after the Expressway witnessed repeated accidents. Experts from the Highway had recently conducted an inspection on the Expressway and had raised concerns about plying of two-wheelers and auto rickshaws. The Authority has now issued a gazette notification banning two-wheelers, auto rickshaws and other vehicles on the Expressway.
The notification has fixed the speed limit to 80 to 100 km on the stretch.
