Two Omicron cases in Bengaluru! First in Karnataka, India

Bengaluru: Amid growing concerns over Omicron or B.1.1.529 mutated virus of Novel Coronavirus, two such cases are reported in the city. It is also first in Karnataka and also India.

Two persons have tested positive for Omicron. Both are in Isolation and their primary and secondary contacts are also mapped as a precautionary measure. The two- one aged 66 years and another 46 year old are the confirmed positive cases in Karnataka.

The 66-year-old had travelled from South Africa via Dubai. 

Union health ministry secretary L Agarwal confirmed on Thursday and the cases were disclosed after obtaining reports of genome sequencing.

Omicron was first detected in African countries on November 11. The samples were collected at Botswana and later it was found in UK, USA, Israel, Germany and Canada. The latest to join the list of affected countries is India as two cases particularly in Karnataka were confirmed in the day.
