Two leopards found dead in rural Nanjangud, foul play suspected

Mysuru: Two leopards were found dead in an agricultural field at Kadabur in Nanjangud taluk in the district on Thursday. They are suspected to have died of poisoning.
The carcasses of leopards aged five year old female and a year old cub respectively were found in a ginger field and banana plantation of farmer Ramanayaka of the village.
They are suspected to have strayed out of forest in search of food, but have died under mysterious circumstances.
Forest personnel Rakshit and Janardhan from Nanjangud visited the spot. A sniffer dog of forest department was also pressed into service.
It is a second such incident in a year, as three leopards were found dead in a similar way at Hallere village in the taluk. The case is yet to reach its logical end with no arrests made in that case.
Recently, three leopards including two cubs were found dead near Belavadi lake in the outskirts of Mysuru. In this case, the animals are suspected to have died after eating the meat of a dog laced with poison.
