Two drown, one stranded in swelling rivers in Belagavi

Belagavi: In two separate cases, two persons drowned in overflowing rivers here in the last 24 hours. While the body of one was traced, the search is on for another.

Sidrai Sutagatti, aged 62, a farmer is suspected to have been washed away in overflowing Markendeya river at Kakti, near Belagavi late on Friday.

Another identified as Hussain Saab Athara drowned after a coracle capsized in Malaprabha river on Saturday. He had gone to fishing along with his sons. While they swam to safety, Athara was unlucky.

His body was retrieved near Yakkundi village in Savadatti taluk. 

Meanwhile, a mentally challenged person is stranded in brimming river and efforts are on to rescue him.
