Mysuru: The Ganesha festival is around the corner and like every year, the pitch for eco-ganesha festival is high. In Mysuru too, several environment-loving groups have come forward to encourage people to switch over to eco-friendly Ganesha idols.
Parisara Balaga, a city-based eco conscious group will be hold a two-day eco-friendly Ganesh making workshops from September 9.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Balaga founder Parashuramegowda said that Ganesha idols are made using plaster of Paris and chemical colours. This not only pollutes waterbodies but also threaten several aquatic species. The time is right to switch over to eco-friendly Ganesha idols, he observed.
To help people make their own eco-friendly Ganeshas, the Balaga along with Mysuru Pollution Control Board is holding the workshop at Kukkarahalli Lake area, Lalitha Mahal Grounds and on September 9 and 10. The Mysuru City Corporation has also joined hands with the Balaga. Participants will be provided clay to make the idols.
