Two boys married off in Mandya district to please rain god

1 min read

Mandya: Worried at the delayed monsoon, residents of a village in Mandya district have prayed for rain God in a unique way – by marrying off two boys with all the tradition in place.

A strange but true incident has been reported from Huliganganahalli in KR Pet taluk, Mandya district.

It is already mid-June and farmers have tilled their lands. But there is no sight of rain leaving the farmers worried. Worried at this, several prayers are being offered in every village to please the rain God.

On Thursday, the villagers married off two boys – one dressed as a groom and other as a bride – amidst much fan fare. What more, they also made the boy tie mangalsutra to his ‘bride’ and prayed the rain god to show mercy on them.

To celebrate the union, the whole village was served a feast and firecrackers were burst. They now hope that their prayers will be answered, soon.
