Tusker electrocuted at a farm in Omkara range; farmer absconding

Mysuru: A tusker aged about 36 years was electrocuted when it came in contact with an electric fence drawn illegally at Kurubarahundi, Naganapura block, Omkara range, near Gundlupet, on Monday.

The electric fence was drawn illegally in a farm (Survey no 154) belonging to Shivarajappa. After the tusker’s death, the farmer is absconding.

Bandipur Tiger Reserve Field Director Ramesh Kumar visited the spot and instructed to register a case against the landowner Shivarajappa at Begur police station under Wildlife Conservation Act 1972 and Indian Electricity Act 2003.

The autopsy was done on the spot under the supervision of Bandipur officials including Ramesh Kumar, ACF G Ravindra, Veterinarian Dr Mirza Vaseem, Omkar RFO KP Sathish Kumar and Special Tiger Conservation platoon officer Naveen Kumar.
