Tusker attacks veterinarian during an operation to capture it near Davangere

Davangere: A tusker attacked a veterinarian during an operation to capture it at Kenchikoppa in Nyamati taluk, Davangere on Tuesday. The injured veterinarian is identified as Dr Vinay of Sakrebailu elephant camp. He is now shifted to a private hospital in Shivamogga and more details are awaited.
Veterinarian Dr Vinay and team were on their mission to capture a wild elephant that had attacked and killed a student Kavana at Somalapura village in Channagiri taluk two days ago. The team had been camping at the village since two days. The forest personnel accompanied by drone team, veterinarian and mahouts had reached Shringarbhag in Basavanapattana on Monday as the tusker was spotted here. However, on Tuesday, it moved from Kenchikoppa to Hosur.
According to reports, Dr Vinay was attacked when he was preparing to shoot the tranquiliser. He is under observation, it is said.
The forest personnel are continuing their operation to capture the tusker.
