Tokyo Paralympics 2021! Kannadiga IAS officer L Y Suhas wins silver

New Delhi: Kannadiga IAS officer L Y Suhas has made the nation proud and Karnataka in particular by winning silver medal in the finals of shuttle badminton singles in Paralympics at Tokyo in Japan on Sunday.

Suhas though lost the opportunity to win Gold, however posed a tough competition to his rival and eventually had to be content with Silver.

He lost to Lucas Mazur of France in the badminton men’s singles SL4 gold medal match.

In the match that lasted 62 minutes, Mazur scored the following points against Suhas;   21-15, 17-21, 15 -21.

As the accolades started pouring in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Suhas over phone and congratulated the latter on his feat.

Suhas ranked World Number 2 was also the first IAS officer to represent the country in Paralympics.

A 2007 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Suhas is currently serving as the district magistrate of Gautama Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

A native of Lalanakere in Hassan district in Karnataka, Suhas later moved to Shivamogga and eventually Delhi. He did his Engineering in Computer Science at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, Dakshina Kannada in 2004.
