Tipu wasn’t a Kannadiga; imposed Persian language during his reign: Ashoka

1 min read

Bengaluru: A day after the Railways decided to rename Mysuru- Bengaluru Tipu Express train as Wodeyar Express, Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Saturday defended the move.

Speaking to media persons, Ashoka said “Tipu wasn’t a Kannadiga, as he imposed Persian language during his reign. Hence the name of Tipu Express is changed. What’s wrong in that?, asked Ashoka.

Continuing, Ashoka said “Tipu was a religious zealot. While Wodeyars the erstwhile rulers of Mysuru have enormously contributed for the development of the State”.

Let Siddaramaiah run the trains in the names of Ghazni, Jinnah and others, mocked Ashoka.

He also thanked the central government for the decision to change the name of Tipu Express to Wodeyar.
