Mysuru: “Tippu Nijakanasugalu” a new play by Rangayana Director Addanda C Cariappa was staged at Bhoomigeetha auditorium in Rangayana on Sunday.

As the play in the form of a book stirred the hornet’s nest ever since it was released recently, with those in favour of Tipu calling it as a deliberate act to distort the history associated with erstwhile Srirangapatna ruler, the maiden show was staged amid the deployment of a strong contingent of police.¬†

Police had been deployed at the main gate of the repertory and the main entrance to the auditorium.

Only those who had ticket were allowed inside. Apart from 300 tickets sold, selected guests were invited to watch the first show.

It may be mentioned that, a section of youths had submitted memoranda urging both the deputy commissioner and police commissioner to take measures to stop the staging of the play.

They had expressed fears over the cause of disturbances in the society due to the staging of the play, that has generated enough controversy.
