Tiger injured in fight with tusker dies at animal rescue centre

Mysuru: A seven to eight year old tiger which had sustained severe injuries after fighting with an elephant at Bandipur National Tiger Reserve forest recently, succumbed on Tuesday night.

The big cat was being treated at Chamundi Animal Rehabilitation and Rescue Centre, Koorgalli in Mysuru by the forest department.

On October 20, the tiger was found severely injured after a fight with tusker, at safari zone of Bandipur National tiger Reserve forest. The tiger had suffered wounds caused by goring of elephant tusk.

The animal was monitored for a limited period and as per NTCA protocol, forest department translocated the tiger to its rehabilitation center and was treating for the injuries.

According to postmortem, the cause of death is due to the infection of the injuries that had spread in the stomach region of the animal.
