Mysuru: The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Hunsur, Bylakuppe, and Mysuru Tibetan Students Association have urged the Centre to address the longstanding human rights violations and political repression faced by the Tibetan people under Chinese rule at the G20 Summit being held in New Delhi.
The Tibetan Youth Congress and the association, through a press release, urged for global solidarity to address Sino-Tibet relations.
“We express our appreciation to India for hosting this important summit and urge the Indian government to use this platform to raise awareness about the plight of the Tibetan people. We believe that India, as a champion of democracy, diversity, and human rights, can play a crucial role in advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Sino-Tibet issue,” the release said.
“Over the years, Tibetans have faced cultural assimilation, religious suppression, and restrictions on their basic freedoms. Tibetan language, religion, and identity have been systematically targeted, leading to a threat to the unique Tibetan culture and heritage. It is essential that the international community, represented at the G20 Summit, acknowledges and addresses these grave violations of human rights.
“We appeal to the G20 member nations to urge the Chinese government to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Tibetan leadership to find a peaceful solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Tibetan people,” the release added.
They also wanted the global community to support initiatives that promote Tibet’s environmental sustainability and preservation. The Tibetan Plateau plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and serving as a water source for millions of people in Asia, they observed. “Protecting Tibet’s fragile ecosystem is not only important for the Tibetan people but also for the entire region,” they noted.
