Alanahalli Puttaswamy who was in the coterie of BJP state Vice-president B Y Vijayendra, former Corporator M Pradeep Kumar and another leader Shadakshari embraced the grand old party in the presence of Opposition Party leader Siddaramaiah in the city.

At a time when Vijayendra was still pinning hopes on Varuna constituency, to make it to electoral politics, Congress party engineered the defect of three youth leaders mainly belonging to Lingayat community.

Alanahalli Puttaswamy’s wife Manjula was once elected from BJP to ZP.

In the recent months, Puttaswamy founded Lingayat Gowda Mahasabha and is also its State president.

As the BJP led state government is already facing the heat of Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Mahaswamiji of Lingayat Panchamsali Jagadguru Mahapeeth, Koodalasangama over the demand for including Panchamsali lingayats in 2A category, the joining of Puttaswamy will also come in handy for Congress to take on BJP.

In this part of Mysuru- Chamarajanagar region, Panchamsalis are known as Gowda Lingayats who form the chunk of vote Bank of saffron party.

Recently, two days ago, Jayamruthyunjaya Mahaswamiji accompanied by Puttaswamy toured Mysuru and Chamarajanagar  districts to gain the support of the community.

Pradeep had contested Assembly elections from Krishnaraja Constituency as an independent.
