THO Nagendra suicide! Irate doctors on government duty want Minister Sudhakar to suspend ZP CEO

Mysuru: Following the suicide of acting taluk health officer of Nanjangud Dr Nagendra, pressure is mounting on the authorities concerned to suspend Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashanth Mishra.
The irate doctors and staff of health and family welfare department on Thursday exhorted Medical Education Minister Dr  K Sudhakar to suspend the CEO and file a case under IPC 306 (abetment to suicide) against the officer.
Hundreds of health and family welfare department staff who had assembled on the premises of DHO office gheraoed the minister on his arrival in the night to pay his last respects to mortal remains of Nagendra.
A woman doctor slammed the minister and questioned “why you came here just to lay the wreath? We want Dr Nagendra back. Can your government give him back? She asked in an emotional tone. 
She termed the exgratia of Rs 30 lakh announced by the government for the next of kin of Nagendra as nothing, as the colleagues of the deceased have the capacity to mobilise Rs 10 crore.
Karnataka Government Medical Practitioners Association President Dr H N Ravindra who blamed ZP CEO again for causing the death of Nagendra explained that “Dr Nagendra had successfully managed Covid crises that had emerged from Jubilant Generics in the initial days. While Mishra had put heavy work load. Even in Mysuru there are more than 50 percent vacant posts and how can the doctors work in this Covid crisis? 
Karnataka Government Medical Practitioners Association Mysuru division has decided not to carry out Covid duties till ZP CEO is kept under suspension. The next course of decision will be taken after Sunday meeting, said Ravindra. 
Minister Sudhakar stated that “it’s unfortunate and measures will be taken to reduce the stress among Covid warriors. I have discussed with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and announced an ex- gratia of Rs 30 lakh. We have also decided to provide job for Dr Nagendra’s wife on  compassionate grounds at Higher Education Department.

Minister Sudhakar also pointed that the Chief Minister who is arriving to offer bagina to KRS dam in Mandya and Kabini in Mysuru is expected to discuss about the nature of investigation into Nagendra’s death.
The minister said that “I have also met Dr Nagendra’s family members and they have agreed to perform final rites on Friday 12 noon onwards”.
