Hubballi: Newly elected MLC, Jagadish Shettar vowed to tour the State and strive to ensure Congress win in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Speaking after being elected as the MLC at his residence in Hubballi, Shettar said that he has a new responsibility now and will ensure Congress party’s win 7 constituencies of the total 11 Lok Sabha constituencies in North Karnataka. “This is my new innings in my political career and I want to give my best. The Congress has given me an opportunity to serve as MLC and I thank all the party leaders,” he told reporters. He further said that he has not demanded any position in the party and it is left to the Congress party to utilise his experience. Taking a dig at the BJP, Shettar said that there is a lot of infighting within the BJP and only time will tell when it will explode. “MP Pratap Simha has openly spoken about adjustment politics, when it should be discussed within the party circle. Now that he has spoken about adjustment politics, it would be good of him to name those leaders who did those exercises, lest party workers will be demotivated,” said Shettar.

With only Congress candidates being in the fray and Friday being the last day to withdraw the nominations, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar was elected to the Legislative Council, unanimously, on Friday. Minister N S Boseraju and senior Congress leader Thippannappa Kamakanur too were elected to the council.

The BJP did not field any candidate and a nomination by an independent candidate, Padmarajan, was rejected paving way for elections of Congress’ three candidates.
