Thanks to youths! Amid Covid crises, country saw record food production, says Shobha Karandlaje

Mysuru: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday credited youths for the record food production during Covid crises.

Speaking to media persons, Karandlaje said “there is no threat to agriculture due to the pandemic situation. As the youths returned home to villages from town, there has been a record cultivation of fruits and vegetables, according to the available reports in the country.” 

Karandlaje said she also intends to travel all over the State as the agrarian issues differ from every other districts. By visiting every districts, efforts will be made to redress the grievances of farmers.

Regarding Farm Bills that continue to be the bone of contention with the ongoing protest, Karandlaje in a mocking tone said “The protest has reduced to a middleman show. We can convince the farmers, but not those disguised as farmers.”

The Bills promises a wide market for farm produces which can even be sold beyond APMCs. A trader from Mumbai can even buy a farmers produce in Mandya, explained Shobha.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving an opportunity to serve the farmers, Shobha said “Being a farmers daughter, I am very much thankful for identifying me. During my nascent days, my village lacked proper roads and electricity supply. I have to safeguard the interest of 80 per cent of farmers of the country. We have to ensure that they remain in the occupation. The ministry will will chalk out a programme in this regard,” Karandlaje added.
