Bengaluru: Five eminent musicians were honoured with various awards during the valedictory ceremony of ‘Thalavadyotsav 2019’ 38th annual percussive arts festival and music conference.
The conference was organised at Sri Jayarama Seva Mandali, eighth block, Jayanagar in the city.
The recipients of the awards are- Vidwan Trichur C Narendran ( Palghat Mani Iyer Memorial award), Vidushi Padma Gurudutt ( Palani Subramanya Pillai Memorial Award), Vimala Rangachar ( Bangalore K Venkataraman Memorial Award), Vidwan A Somashekar ( H Puttachar Memorial Award) and Vidwan R Karthik ( Carnatic Music Association of North America endowment prize).
Former professor, IIT, Madras, Dr K N Seetharamu saud there is a great need for preservation of classical art forms, especially music. He lauded the efforts of music Sabhas in this regard.
Musicologist Prof Mysore V Subramanya recalled the history of foundation of Percussive Arts centre mainly the role played by musicologist late B V K Sastry.
The festival concluded with a concert by Vidwan A V Anand and N Amrit on mridangam and khanjari respectively.
President of Percussive Arts centre M R Doraiswamy Iyengar and executive director V Krishna, and R N Swamy president of Sri Jayarama Seva Mandali were present.
