Tension in Tiger Block as residents protest against encroachment of tank built by Wadiyars

H D Kote: Residents of Tiger Block in H D Kote taluk have resorted to a protest alleging encroachment of a tank that was reportedly built during the Wadiyar’s rule. The villagers alleged that Nagamma, Shivannegowda, Kalpana and Nanjundegowda family – all residents of Tiger Block – have encroached upon the heritage tank built in 8.10 acres.
The encroachment came to light when the accused were preparing to till the tank land where water has dried up now. Tension prevailed here for sometime when the residents tried to stop an earthmover that was commissioned to clear the tank bund area for tilling purpose.
It is said that the tank was built by the royal family to quench the thirst of livestock. The Wadiyars used to frequent the village for hunting, it is said.
The villagers alleged that repeated pleas to protect the tank have fell on deaf ears. Even a complaint to the deputy commissioner has not yielded any help, they complained.
