2 min read

Mysuru: A FIR has been booked against eight people including an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) at Hullahalli police station in Nanjangud taluk.

Following the suicide of a 19-year-old girl student and the alleged laxity on the part of police in handling the case, the relatives had lodged a complaint with circle police inspector of Nanjangud on October 16, seeking justice.

The girl’s grandfather Chikkachannaiah had alleged laxity on the part of the ASI in acting against the accused when his granddaughter went to the police station to seek justice.

The FIR has been booked against- Suresh, Gurumallu, Lokesh, Jada Mallaiah, Mallikarjunaiah, Gowramma, Rajamma and Shivaraju M C, ASI of Hullahalli police station.

According to the FIR copy, Chikkachannaiah has alleged that ” My granddaughter was in love with one Lokesh of the village for five years. However, when the marriage marriage related issue cropped up among them, Lokesh did a turnaround. He asked her to marry somebody else. Besides, he also gave her cell number to Suresh another accused in the case. Later, they had used her abusively. Suresh had also issued murder threat to my grand daughter.”

When she knocked on the doors of the police station, the police refused to register the case and turned her away. The ASI Shivaraju who collected details of the case, summoned accused to the station and later dropped the case for the lure of bribe.

One fine day, accused Suresh and Jadamallaiah both drunk created a scene in front of our house  bragging about the case being dropped and we can’t stand against them.

Fearing further consequences, as any step may disturb her studies, we didn’t resort to approach village heads. However we lodged a police complaint.

On September 16, we had gone to farm and returned home later only to find our granddaughter dead. She had committed suicide by hanging.

To guard the family honour, we didn’t disclose any details and performed her last rites.

While cleaning her room, 11 days after her death, a suicide note was found narrating the ordeal she had undergone. An audio clip was also found through which the conspiracy hatched to murder her and other incriminating details came to be known.

Based on all these findings, a complaint was lodged at Hullahalli police station. But the police issued a NCR.

Chikkachannaiah has also urged the police to take action against Gurumallu and the farm house owner, which was used to carry murder attempt.

SP R Chetan had sought a report during his visit to the station from CPI of Nanjangud, on October 16. The CPI had also found dereliction of duty on the part of ASI.

The accused are booked under IPC sections- 376 (rape), 306 (abetment to suicide), 166 (a) public servant disobeying direction under law, 176 (omission to give notice or information to public servant, 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (Act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
